A Clinical Study on Salivary Gland Tumors


Abstract
We analyzed retrospectively patients with salivary gland tumors who had admitted Chungnam National University Hospital from January, 1987 to September, 1993.
Our data obtained from 60 available subjects showed that the most frequent site of origin was the parotid gland(53%), and the most common histologic type of salivary gland tumors was pleomorphic adenoma(54%). The average incidence of malignancy
was
20%
in the parotid gland 40% in submandibular gland and 58% in minor salivary gland. The most common histologic type of malignant tumors was mucoepidermoid carcinoma in the parotid and submandibular glands, and adenoid cystic carcinoma in minor
salivary
gland. The regional lymph node metastasis rate in malignant tumors was 35% and distant metastasis rate was 15%.
